I was looking at aquabid and found a guy selling these great looking fish and was wondering about peoples experences here with this species. I am interested in giving them a try but I am a little bit worried about them temps getting to hot.
Do they do well outside? The night time temps here in flagstaff during the summers are a little above the temp ranges that I have found for them online but not to far outside. |

I'm sure some people here with actual experience will chime in with some good advice, but until they do I would caution you to err on the side of cooler temperatures rather than warmer. I've never heard of anyone killing any Girardinichthys because they were too cold, but lots of people who kept them in the 70s and ended up losing them to disease. Just my two cents (and that might be overestimating the value). |

keep them betwin 5 and 20C and feed them livefood. That will do the trick. They do well in ponds and these ponds may have to be deep in Flagstaff so that they can swim, into cooler temps if needed. They do well in Denmark, one friend of mine got maybe 2 pairs in the spring of 2008 and by August he had maybe 100 whereof many where reproducing, all in a 500 l pond feed on livefood.

Thanks for the tips maybe I will leave these little guys for someone that lives in a bit cooler area and I will focus on the characodons that he is selling instead. Thanks again. |

If you are talking about Ted Randall's fish, I would heartily recommend the El Toboso that he is offering. He has excellent stock of almost all his fish and the Characodon audax are no exception. You can't go wrong getting any fish from Splash. |

Those are the ones. I am watching it as I can't spend to much or my wife will make me sleep on the couch. But again sometimes it worth it, wish me luck. |
