A perfect ALA 2010 Convention for me would include hearing all the speakers, getting to meet and mingle with some knowledgeable aquarists and coming home with the following fish in hand:

Allotoca maculata
Allotoca zacapuensis
Girardinichthys viviparus
Neotoca bilineata
Xenotoca melanosoma
Limia zonata

(If I come home with only two out of those six, I'm probably going to be pretty happy.) Here is my complete and ultimate livebearer wish list:

Allodontichthys polylepis
Allodontichthys zonistius
Alloophorus robustus
Allotoca catarinae
Allotoca diazi
Allotoca maculata
Allotoca meeki
Allotoca regalis
Allotoca zacapuensis
Chapalichthys pardalis
(with really good collection information)
Chapalichthys peraticus
Girardinichthys viviparus
Hubbsina turneri
Neotoca bilineata
Skiffia sp.
"the latest population whose designation I can't remember"
Xenotoca melanosoma
Alfaro huberi
Limia dominicensis
Limia zonata
Xiphophorus xiphidium

Here is a list of fish I might have a surplus of in six months. (No guarantees. I am constantly inventing new and stupider ways to kill fish)

Goodeids

* Allodontichthys hubbsi "Rio Pihuamo" - not many
* Allotoca dugesii "Rancho El Molino"
* Allotoca dugesii var. Black Sport "Rancho El Molino" (Dibble 2000) - not many
* Allotoca goslinei "Rio Potrero Grande"
* Ameca splendens "Rio Teuchitlan" (Miller 1966)
* Ataeniobius toweri "Anteojitos"
* Chapalichthys "La Mintzita"
* Characodon sp. 27 de Noviembre
* Characodon sp. Amado Nervo (Artigas 1999)
* Characodon sp. Los Pinos "Rio Canatlan" (Artigas 2001)
* Girardinichthys multiradiatus "Maravatio"
* Goodea atripinnis
* Goodea gracilis "Rio San Juan del Rio" (Miller)
* Goodea luitpoldi "Laguna Opopeo"
* Ilyodon furcidens "Comala"
* Ilyodon furcidens var. xantusi
* Ilyodon whitei "Rio Huamita"
* Skiffia francesae "Rio Teuchitlan"
* Skiffia lermae "La Mintzita" (2006)
* Skiffia multipunctata "Laguna Camecuaro"
* Skiffia multipunctata "Restar La Isla Zamora"
* Xenoophorus captivus "Illescas"
* Xenoophorus captivus "Jesus Maria" (Artigas & Kaufman 1997)
* Xenoophorus captivus "Santa Maria"
* Xenotoca eiseni "Granja Sahuaripa"
* Xenotoca eiseni "Manantial el Sacristan" (1955)
* Xenotoca eiseni "Rio Tamazula" (Wessel)
* Xenotoca variata "Zacapu" (Lambert 1987) - not many
* Zoogoneticus quitzeoensis "La Luz" (purhepechus)
* Zoogoneticus quitzeoensis "Laguna Zacapu" (Macallister)

Other Livebearers

* Alfaro cultratus
* Girardinus metallicus
* Limia melanogaster
* Limia melanonotata "Santa Maria, D.R." (Serva)
* Limia perugiae
* Limia sp. Tiger
* Limia sulphurophila
* Poecilia chica "Rio Purificacion" (Biggs 2008) - not many
* Xiphophorus alvarezi red "Jaliscar, Guatamala" (McCallister) - not many
* Xiphophorus couchianus "Huasteca Canyon"

I would be very interested in what others might be looking for or are planning on bringing to the convention.

Hey Joel,

I reckon we in the UK can deal with 5 of your 6 must have species - I am not talking for anyone else and will have to make a few calls but I reckon I can talk one of the guys over here to trade Allotoca zacapuensis, Girardinichthys viviparus and Xenotoca melanosoma in exchange for Skiffia lermae, Allodontichthys hubbsi and Allotoca goslinei.

I only know of Ted Randall in the US who might have Allotoca maculata.

Limia zonata and the Skiffia sp (is it the new collection of francesae you are talking about?) I have in hand and I may or may not manage to bring some Skiffia (Neotoca) bilineata along with me depending upon a whole load of things which should be in my control, but appear not to be.

As for my side of things, if I could get hold of Limia sulphorophila and Xiphophorus couchianus then I would be fairly satisfied but there is a long list of would likes aswell and maybe we can all keep in contact as we approach the convention and formalise something.

Hey Duncan,

I currently have plenty of Allotoca goslinei and Skiffia lermae. I only have around 20 Allodontichthys hubbsi (10 adults, 10 juveniles), but anticipate that I should have enough to give away some at the convention. You're at the top of my list.

Luckily the convention next year is going to be close to Ted Randall and some other people who have distributed Allotoca maculata in the past. I know one person who bagged some maculata up for last year's convention and lost them all immediately. It made me sick to hear that.

I was talking about the Skiffia that a lot of people are calling the new francesae. I'm interested in all populations of Skiffia.

I have tons of Limia sulphurophila and Xiphophorus couchianus and look forward to giving you some. I hope we can all keep in touch as the convention approaches and try to help each other have a good experience there.

Hey Joel,

It all sounds good.

The hubbsi would be great, I was doing quite well with them last time and managed to distribute some in the UK, but I lost around 3 pairs and 20 juveniles in my power cut in January 2009. Annoyingly they survived close to freezing temperatures, but died as the temperature recovered when they were completely overcome with fungus. I will pass them on straight away this time, but you know how these things work, if you choose carefully they will always come back.

The Skiffia we are calling Skiffia sp. V188 over here, they seem to be getting established to such an extent that they were going for £3 a bag at the last auction. I paid more for mine, but I wanted fish that came from the same place as my existing stocks. I have quite a few and will save some for you to bring.

It will be good to get something going properly and a good way to breath life into what was an old favourite forum of mine!!

I also hope to bring some of the Girardinus species along (I have falcatus, deniticulatus, uninotatus, microdactylus and yellow belly metallicus), all collected from Cuba in 2009 but six months is a long time away and I have only just started the fishkeeping back up again in a new fishroom and in a new county since January.

Hej Joel
I should have some N bilineata for you in 2010. Maybe also A meeki depends on winter and spring. As it looks now I will have 7-8 breeding females in 2010. Maybe also C pardalis.

S lermae with locations would be excellent in the future.

Anyways,

Duncan: Girardinus, available. Please consider Denmark....

Martin,

I thought you had given up?? I thought you only had a few tanks in the greenhouse? Of course I will remember you, hopefully we will get a bit of joy over the winter but lets keep this forum going.

Who knows, we may even get to meet next year Smile

Martin - I am looking forward to exchanging fish in the Spring.

Duncan - I think Girardinus would be an excellent choice to bring to the ALA Convention if possible. Outside of metallicus, I rarely see any prominently available in the US.

Martin, that is good to hear.

I have put my fishlist in the journal section, take a look and I will see how I get on. I will also start to let you all know of what I have available in Spring next year.
