from my limited experience with planted tanks, it seems that pressurized CO2 performs better, is easier to manage, and produces better results than most other methods, such as DIY reactors and tabs. it should also be cheaper in the long run than tabs or Excel or other comparable products.
what kind of tanks are you growing plants in? if this is for a display system, then i would be more inclined to use pressurized CO2. some experienced aquarists also get great results using no CO2 injection at all by using slower growing plants, such as anubias, mosses and ferns in lower light conditions.
you can find mountains of information at Planted Tank Forums:

well, i mainly have java fern, some java moss, and some red melon swords....how hard is pressurized co2 going to be? ive heard of it but dont know much about it
i have never purchased a system, but from what i have been told it is best to avoid those "complete set-ups" that they have in pet shops and Foster & Smith or wherever. it is wiser to get a good solenoid valve and other good quality components.
again, i suggest looking and asking around planted tank forums. you will find lots of information there.
if you might have any interest, i have a bunch of plants that are pretty authentic for associations with Mexico rivers.
